"grievance boxes for the universe", 2013-14
This work was created when I lost someone dear to me. I was experiencing very intense emotions and didn’t know what to do with them. I had the idea I would give them up to the Universe. I wrote all my grievances about the situation on book pages, magazine pages, old mail, and notebook paper. At the same time, I was helping a friend clean out a closet and discovered a box of old boxes. It was a natural next step to put the grievances in the old boxes, seal them up, make them beautiful, and turn them over to the Universe. Each box contains messages, objects, and oddities. All are painted, some dipped in wax, some bound with string, some have all three. But they all contain a grievance; some, a full-on rant. The process helped me through the grief. These boxes were created in 213-14 and are on view at Nave Gallery in Somerville, MA until 2017.

Life is too precious to be lived in mediocrity. Life is a golden opportunity to be wonderful. We must use it to express our true selves and our uniqueness. This is a one-of-a-kind handmade accordion book. There were 16 different copper plates created for the printmaking parts, outside pages, of the book. The inside pages are made of photographs that were digitally manipulated and printed then transferred to the paper; the type design was designed backwards, printed then transferred to the paper. This is a one-of-a-kind handmade accordion book. It illustrates in a visual, 3-dimensional way, the bibliography for my M.F.A thesis. The book 80 inches long and 7 inches high. The white chairs represent my graduate committee and the blue chair represents me. The images are all digitally manipulated photographs printed on paper. 2004
"soft deductions", 2002
What if everything you assumed was true, wasn't?! This book deals with enculturation, judgement, and snap decisions. This is a handmade one-of-a-kind accordion book made from BFK paper, digitally manipulated photographs, designed type, letter press on foam paper. The type was designed backwards, printed, then transferred to the book pages. The dimensions are five inches by forty inches. I later made a short film inspired by this book. It can be seen at:
"post-modern tarot", 2002
This handmade deck of tarot cards emphasizes the problems of modern society and serves as a warning for ones place in it now and the future. It cleverly distinguishes knowledge from ignorance, social progress from reversion, dominance from submission, and presence from absence. Each card has a letter drawn on the back. When the deck is laid in order, it reveals the quote "I wish I were a machine" by Andy Warhol.
"diver", 2002
This book deals with the idea of going deep within, collecting information, then bringing it back to the surface for sorting out and digesting. It serves as a metaphor for immersing oneself in the inner workings of the soul. A dive can be seen as the suspended moment between an old life, death then new life. This is a one-of-a-kind handmade accordion book. The paper is handmade, the images are etching & intaglio prints with chin-colle. The letters are letter press. The book's dimensions are seven inches by eighty inches.
"safety first", 2002
This is a one-of-a-kind handmade accordion book inspired by safety cards found on airplanes only these cards tell you how to be safe in the mind-numbing, post modern chaos of the 21st century. There are 3 safety cards incased in a handmade box.
"truth beauty chaos", 2009
Old patterns, oil paint, vintage wall paper, handmade paper are pieced together with etchings and chin-colle of chairs masquerading as the human figure. This book reminds us of the absoluteness of human life and that life is an unknown. This book is made using the accordion fold method with Arches paper, encaustic, Zerox transfers. It is a companion piece to the Truth Beauty Chaos painting series and was shown with those paintings in 2012.

"Careful" implies attentiveness and cautiousness in avoiding mistakes. Sometimes being careful robs us of life's most wonderful experiences. How do we know where the fine line is? How do we take a chance without the risk? The fragility of life will always be present; your expiration date set; live your life.
"seeing random", 2001
This book is the first book I made. I gathered up many objects , big and small, tossed them on a photocopier, made a copy, repeat. My idea in making this book was about training my eyes to see tiny details while training my mind to think beyond what I was seeing. As I put the book together, I allowed myself to add any random object, paper, etc. that was near me. Even the book's binding was random as it was the only thing I had in my studio that would hold the pages together.
